Motivation returns

Monday, October 24th, 2011

was down .8 this week, but while that’s good, considering I didn’t track anything last week, that’s not what’s on my mind right now. My husband asked me an insightful question. He knows I’m not where I want to be and this weekend I was very down on myself. This was the year I was supposed to make goal (on Weight Watchers and a couple of other things in my life) and at the end of October, I don’t feel any closer.

He asked me where I was a year ago. I love that WW now puts the weight on our page automatically so I don’t have to remember to do it. I looked up where I was at the weigh in at this time last year and I was .2 pounds heavier. It’s not a lot but it’s something, darn it!!

I started watching Biggest Loser again. I watch it on Hulu.com as we don’t have cable and I’m behind everyone else. However, watching those people always motivates me.

I stopped going to the gym when my sciatica started acting up and I can’t run or do any jumping stuff so the classes I liked to go go are out. I started using my Wii for exercise, but lately all I do is Walk it Out, which, while it’s a good “game” and I love it, I know it’s not challenging me. I don’t even get too tired doing it anymore. So, I asked my loving, supportive husband if he’d go to the gym with me tomorrow night to make sure I do something. He said he’d watch our son and let me go so we didn’t have to send him to the grandparents. Also, it’ll give my husband a chance to do some writing.

I even put this on the calender. I’m going to do it!

There are 8 weeks left in 2011. I can’t get to goal (unless some miracle occurs and I lose more than I generally do every week), but I can get closer. If I lose a pound a week, I would be closer than I’ve ever been!!!

I’m going to try. I feel so psyched about this. I just hope this feeling lasts!

Creatively Imperfect – Sunday – Jewelry/Beading

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

In this post, I talked about a pair of earrings I saw in a catalog that cost about $45 and how I thought I could make something similar for a lot cheaper.

Today I got the supplies and made the earrings. Here are some pictures!

I wanted to put two blue and one green bead on the earrings but their wasn’t enough contrast to see the difference. I think, if I get a decent response from these, I’ll make some Christmas one and maybe some for other holidays or something.

Do you like them? I’m going to put them in my Etsy Shop!

Creatively Imperfect Saturday – Quilting

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

So, yesterday, we went over to the neighbors’ house to give their daughter a present for her new baby.

I made this top years ago and I found it in a pile of tops I had. The backing came from my mother’s stash and I bought binding at the fabric store.

Writing and editing news

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

Hi, all! I hope you’re having a great weekend, even though it’s still kind of early on Saturday morning.

Last night, after we put our son to bed, I settled my computer on my lap in bed and checked my email. I got a note from Lin, an editor from Crescent Moon Press, an epublisher for whom I’m doing editing (but no acquisitions, so don’t send me manuscripts!). I’m currently in the middle, technically, of editing two books for them. I say technically because I only have one of them on my computer right now, and I’m waiting for the author to send me the other one.

Lin just wrong to see how things were going and asked if I’d be interested in editing a Middle Grade book. I’m quite excited about this because Steve has a Middle Grade book he’s written that’s he’s been talking about self-publishing. I’m interested in seeing how his book stands up to one that CMP has purchased.

So, now I’m focusing on getting my current assignment finished to I can move on to the next one!

For my own writing, I have a good start on Sword & Infidel but I’ve set it aside until I see if Sword & Illusion sells. I don’t want to waste my writing time on a project that may never see the light of day.

So, now I’m debating on what to work on. I want to do NaNoWriMo this year, so I’m holding off on writing Pigsty Princess until then. I got an idea for a shapeshifting jewel thief detective last weekend so I’ve been working on that one, AND the Lost Ring of Queen Foo that Noah and I’ve been talking about. I just don’t have one book that I’m focusing on now.

My critique group, The Rowdy Girls, meets on Tuesday and I need to submit something to them this weekend.

So, I guess I should get writing! Later, y’all!

Creatively Imperfect Friday- Jewelry/Beading

Friday, October 7th, 2011

I’m going to start sharing with you all my craft endeavors that have nothing to do with fiction. As I mentioned in a previous post, I believe everyone is creative in their own way. I hope, with these Creatively Imperfect posts, I’ll inspire you to live a more creative life.

I chose the title Creatively Imperfect because I realized that I do a lot of crafty things but I haven’t really taken any classes. My mother taught me to sew and knit, but for the most part I just read a lot and tried.

Right now, my newest craft thing is jewelry making and beading. I have a small, relatively unknown Etsy shop (www.etsy.com/shop/romancechick) where I sell some simple jewelry and rosaries.

In that vein, I was looking through a catalog I got in the mail the other day and saw these earrings:

These are about $45 in the catalog.

I realized that I could make something similar for less.

Using:

Stainless steel 50mm hoops

And:

These beads - they're not gold but I think they're prettier than the original

and:

I wanted to add a little interest so I will use two of one color and one of the other for each earring.

I haven’t ordered these yet, but I put them into the order form and I can get two pair of earrings for about $22!

I’ll post pictures when I get the supplies and make the earrings!

Stay tuned!
