Bicycle Stunt Rider

The Boy turned 6 in April, and we got him a bicycle. It is actually his second bike; his first one was too small.

When he first got his training wheels off, he would ride just a little and not too fast, saying it was too hard or something. I figured he just didn’t like bikes that much.

Then he got this new one and he took off on it like he was born to it. Where before I could jog around the block faster than he would ride (and I’m a turtle when I run, folks), now Beloved, who runs several miles every week, can’t keep up with him.

Now that school’s out, it’s part of our routine that I take him outside to ride around the driveway. The Girl works at Chick-fil-a from 6-2 every day, pretty much, and usually she takes my car so I can’t take him anywhere bigger to ride.

He speeds around the driveway, turning at such a great speed that sometimes his pedal scraps the ground. It is a little nerve-wracking on the mom! He tries to do tricks – taking his feet off the pedals, riding with one hand, bouncing in and out of a hole next to the driveway, stuff like that.

However, I know he wants to learn to do harder and harder stunts. He set up a rock in the middle of the driveway and rode over it, banging up his knees and already battered elbow in the process. He also likes to run straight into the wall! I’m sure it’s only a matter of time until there are ramps in my driveway and he’ll learn how to stand on the seat.

We REALLY need to go back to the helmet, knee and elbow pads! And I need to stock up on hair color because I’m going to be totally gray if this keeps up!
